Content is key for business

Content is key to growing your business.

No, seriously, without content your business won’t grow.

Harsh, I know. But it has to be said.

You see, content (and content marketing) is often overlooked or dismissed as unnecessary. And that’s because we live in a world of instant gratification, and content marketing is a process.

It takes time.

And the longer it takes – the more time business owners have to lose faith in its potential.

You see, content is key. Content marketing will drive results, boost sales, increase your ROI, grow your brand awareness, and take your dream window shoppers and turn them into dream clients.

But how?

What is Content Marketing?

Before I dive into the hows and whys of content is key, I need to explain the what.

What is content marketing?

Now, I don’t know about you, but I’ve definitely spent some time convincing people that content isn’t just “posting on social media” or “doing funny dances on TikTok.”

I mean… if a dance fits into your overall content marketing strategy and brand vibe (though personally I’d stay FAR away from this!), then all the power to you. But.. short answer: No.

That’s not all content or content marketing is.

And I’m going to be completely honest here – I don’t believe that everything is content.

That’s because content marketing is supposed to further your business goals. And content is how you get there. Everything you create from articles to podcasts needs to have a purpose that helps attract, engage and inspire your dream clients to take some kind of action.

Realistically the end goal for any business is to drive profitability, so if your content isn’t working to help you reach that goal, then what are you doing it for?

So that brings me back to the question: What is content marketing?

It’s simple. Content marketing is a strategic way to provide valuable, relatable, and engaging information to build your audience and increase your sales.

It’s everything that you do to build awareness of your brand, and ensure that your business and your products are top of mind.

Content is Key

Fun fact: You can’t have content marketing without content.

Content by definition is the information that you, as a business, put out into the world.

Starting at your website and filtering down into your social channels, email lists and ads. It’s all content and it all helps you reach your dream clients and grow your business.

The most important thing to remember when you create your content – and why I highly recommend a content strategy – is that your content needs a purpose.

Without a purpose, your content is wandering aimlessly in the universe of the internet. It won’t draw in the right clients, it won’t grow your brand awareness, and it won’t grow your community.

And not to mention,  it means you’re working for no ROI.

So, before you dive into any content, be sure you have the below four steps covered:

Do You Need a Content Strategy?

You know those 4 points we just went through? Well, a content strategy helps you identify all those points (and more) and ties in your content marketing efforts together.

You see, you can’t “do” marketing without a plan. And that’s what the strategy is.

A content strategy is the roadmap to your content marketing success. It takes your business goals and translates them into actionable items that drive results.

A good content strategy will help you map out who your audience is, what you need to say to get their attention, where they ‘hang out’, why they need your business, and what type of content will be the most successful in converting them from window shopper to dream client.

Having a content strategy will make creating your content easier.

And in today’s world, who doesn’t love easy?

Don’t believe me that content is key?

I’m going to share a little secret with you.

Content is a gift that keeps on giving.

And I’m not talking about just social media, I’m talking about content as a whole. Blogs, website copy, email newsletters, and everything YOU do to get noticed.

It’s called organic marketing, which means that once you commit to implementing it, you can reap the rewards.

Your content will generate leads and traffic which, when it comes to your business, means that your clients will come to you.

Even better, that long-form piece of content you created, can actually be repurposed.

Say what?!

Yup. Repurposing your content, framing it in different ways, sharing it across different mediums will give you a better return on investment, and make one piece of content extend even farther!

Crazy right?!
